About the LM

The 2010-2015 Hyundai Tucson is the LM generation and brought a dramatic styling change in line with Hyundai's fluidic sculpture design language, along with a significant improvement in interior quality. Engines were 2.0-liter and 2.4-liter Theta II four-cylinders, paired with a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive was standard with all-wheel drive optional. The V6 was dropped entirely for this generation.

The move to a six-speed automatic and the newer engine family improved both performance and fuel economy over the JM. Standard equipment remained generous relative to price. The TL generation that followed in 2016 grew larger and introduced a turbocharged option with a dual-clutch transmission.

For used buyers, the LM Tucson is an inexpensive and reasonably refined compact crossover. The 2.4-liter Theta II engine used in this generation is part of the family subject to large-scale recalls for connecting rod bearing wear, and verifying recall completion and the knock sensor detection software update on a specific vehicle is the most important check a buyer can make. The 2.0-liter is a lower-output variant of the same family. Otherwise this generation has few systemic faults.
