What the data shows
This 2021 Tacoma SR5 is a solid, reliable choice for light truck duties. The 2GR-FKS V6 is known for longevity, and the low mileage and clean history are big pluses. Budget about $300 for upcoming maintenance (transmission fluid, spark plugs) over the next 20k miles. Overall a great find if the price is fair—just confirm the dealer's asking price and get a pre-purchase inspection.

Costly repairs, but not urgent to verify before you buy. Price them out and use them to negotiate.
Transmission Fluid Change Needed
The 6-speed automatic in the 2021 Tacoma is generally reliable, but Toyota recommends a fluid change at 60k miles for severe service (towing, off-road, or stop-and-go). Since it's at 60k and recently serviced, ask if the transmission fluid was changed. If not, budget for it.
Minor wear typical for the car’s age. Not worth negotiating over, but good to track as an owner.
Spark Plug Replacement Due Soon
The 2GR-FKS V6 uses iridium spark plugs with a 60k-mile service interval. Since the truck is at 60k miles, these should be replaced soon. It's a straightforward job but requires removing the intake manifold on the rear bank.
Third Brake Light Leak
Some 2020-2023 Tacomas have issues with the third brake light seal leaking water into the cab, especially after car washes or heavy rain. This can cause musty smells or damage to the headliner.
Rust on Frame or Suspension Components
Tacomas are known for frame rust in salt-belt states, but Meridian, ID (dry climate) is low-risk. Still, inspect the rear crossmember and leaf spring mounts for scaling or holes, especially if the truck ever lived in a snowy area.
Check for TSB on A/T Shift Quality
Some 2020-2021 Tacomas have a TSB (0057-21) for harsh 1-2 upshifts or delayed engagement. The fix is a transmission control module (TCM) reflash. Not a mechanical failure, but worth asking if done.
Timing Chain Tensioner Wear (Uncommon)
The 2GR-FKS uses a timing chain with hydraulic tensioners. A small number of owners report a rattle on cold starts after 60k miles, usually due to a weak tensioner. Not widespread, but worth listening for.
Every finding still open carries a question worth asking. Copy them as one message, already ordered by severity. Anything you have marked above drops off on its own.

Before you leave: Ask the seller not to start or move the car before you arrive. A sales-ready car has usually been warmed up, and a warm engine hides the startup smoke, rattles and rough idle that the first section is built around.
Everything on this list is what you can see standing next to the car. A shop on a lift sees the rest, and a written pre-purchase inspection listing parts and labor is what a seller has to answer to. Budget roughly $100 to $150 at an ASE-certified shop.
