FAQs

01

How does the Car Finder choose cars?

It scores 898 generations of 412 popular models from 1990 to 2025 against your answers: documented problems, running costs, crash-test results, fuel economy, space and more, weighted by the priorities you rank. The same answers always give the same picks.

02

Where do the prices come from?

They are typical US private-party prices for an average-mileage example of each model year, refreshed a few times a year. Use them to see which years your budget reaches, then compare real listings.

03

Does a pick mean the car will not have problems?

No. Picks reflect documented patterns and typical prices for those model years, not the history of any one car. Once you find a listing, run a Buyer Guide on it and get a professional pre-purchase inspection before you buy.

04

Is the Car Finder free?

Yes, and there is no sign-in. You can email yourself the shortlist if you want to keep it.

05

Can it suggest older cars and classics?

Yes. Answer Any age and it reaches back to 1990. Pick favorite brands and your first pick comes from one of them whenever one fits your answers. Known problems still show for every pick.
