About the K2UC

The 2015-2020 Chevrolet Tahoe is the K2UC generation, sharing the EcoTec3 engine family and much of its structure with the K2XX Silverado. Engines were the 5.3-liter V8 and, on the RST and Premier trims, the 6.2-liter V8, paired with a six-speed automatic and later eight- and ten-speed units. Rear-wheel drive was standard with four-wheel drive optional. Magnetic Ride Control was available on higher trims, a significant upgrade in ride quality for a body-on-frame SUV.

This generation brought a much quieter cabin, a modern interior, and a power-folding third row, though the solid rear axle continued to limit third-row and cargo floor height compared with independent-suspension rivals. The T1UC generation that followed in 2021 finally addressed that with an independent rear suspension.

As a used buy, the K2UC Tahoe is comfortable and well equipped, and Magnetic Ride Control examples ride noticeably better than those without. The eight-speed automatic of this period is associated with torque converter shudder, addressed through a revised fluid specification. Cylinder deactivation remains linked to lifter failure and oil consumption on the V8s. The third row and the cargo space behind it are the practical weak points and should be assessed in person if passengers are a priority.
